Sanju Samson Envisions Bright Future for Young Bowlers After IPL Season
Rajasthan Royals Conclude IPL Season on a High Note
Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, has expressed optimism about the future of young fast bowlers in his squad. He also praised 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and committed to returning next season with a refreshed mindset.
The Royals wrapped up their disappointing campaign in the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) positively, securing a six-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Samson Highlights Young Talent in the Squad
Samson was particularly impressed by the 'temperament' displayed by his youthful bowling lineup, which effectively limited Chennai's scoring to 187/8. Despite missing key players like Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma, young bowlers Yudhvir Singh and Tushar Deshpande made significant impacts, while 19-year-old South African Kwena Maphaka added his speed to the attack.
"It feels good. We debated whether to bat first or chase. I opted for the latter, and the young bowlers showed remarkable temperament and planning. They have a promising future ahead," Samson remarked during the post-match presentation.
Yudhvir Singh and Akash Madhwal Disrupt CSK's Batting Lineup
Although he was somewhat expensive, Yudhvir Singh managed to unsettle Chennai's top order, finishing with figures of 3/47. Meanwhile, Akash Madhwal from Uttarakhand stole the spotlight with an impressive 3/29.
Madhwal, named Player of the Match, dismantled Chennai's middle order, sending in-form Dewald Brevis back to the pavilion and claiming crucial wickets of MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube in the final over.
Samson Commends Madhwal's Performance
Samson expressed his delight over Madhwal's exceptional performance, noting that he has been diligently working with bowling coach Shane Bond. "He has only played the last four games, but Shane has been closely mentoring him. Everyone has recognized his hard work," Samson stated.
"The competition is tight, and the margin for error is minimal. We need to conduct a thorough review of our performance," he added.
Samson Praises Young Sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi
While Madhwal shone with the ball, Suryavanshi captivated fans with his composed innings of 57 runs off 33 balls. Known for his aggressive style, the 14-year-old adapted his approach to suit the match situation.
"I am at a loss for words regarding Vaibhav. His century was pure class. He can hit slower balls over cover, and today he played smartly during the middle overs. His talent at such a young age is commendable," Samson remarked.
Looking Ahead to Next Season
With the season concluded, Rajasthan Royals finished in ninth place with eight points, likely to remain there. Samson acknowledged that the team could have performed better, admitting to mistakes made throughout the season.
"We definitely could have done better. It’s not just about luck; we need to learn from our errors and return with a stronger mindset next season," he concluded.
