The Chennai Bulls are currently at the top of the Rugby Premier League standings and have secured their place in the next round. Among their standout players is Sandhyarani Tudu, who has made significant contributions to the team's success. Originating from Odisha, Sandhyarani embarked on her rugby journey in 2017, initially introduced to the sport through her school. Her passion for rugby has grown immensely over the years, as it has instilled in her values such as discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence.

Despite facing numerous obstacles early in her career, including a lack of proper training facilities, Sandhyarani's determination and her family's support helped her overcome these challenges. She began her rugby career as a novice but soon earned a spot at Future Stars Sports Academy, where she received enhanced training and opportunities to develop her skills. Through relentless effort, she has emerged as a formidable rugby player.

One of her career highlights includes representing India on both national and international platforms. Sandhyarani has participated in various national tournaments and training camps, proudly wearing the Indian jersey in international competitions. Recently, she shared her thoughts on her journey and the significance of rugby in her life.

Q. Sandhya, how significant is rugby for you? Sandhya: Honestly, rugby is my identity. It has given me recognition as an international player. Whenever I earn from playing, I send money home, which makes my parents very happy. Coming from a small village and a humble background, I started playing rugby in 2017 while in school. After participating in the Nationals in 2018, I faced a hiatus due to a lack of facilities. However, with my coach's encouragement, I joined Future Stars Sports Academy, where I balanced my studies and training. Gradually, I continued to excel in Nationals and eventually made it to the Indian team, which feels incredible!

Q: How important is the Women's League for female players? Sandhya: Last year, the Rugby Premier League was exclusively for men. We watched those matches wishing we could play too. Now that we have our league, it’s a significant step for women in sports. Many girls in my village aspire to play or study, and I encourage them to work hard.

Q: What is your perspective on rugby's growth in India? Sandhya: Rugby wasn't very prominent in India before, but it's gaining traction now. I believe it deserves as much attention as cricket. The Rugby Premier League is a great opportunity for fans to enjoy and support the sport.

Q. Do you have a favorite athlete? Sandhya: Yes, Portia Woodman from New Zealand is my favorite player.
