Sai Sudharsan Sets Record as Fastest Player to 2000 IPL Runs
Sai Sudharsan Achieves Milestone in IPL
In a remarkable feat, Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans (GT) has etched his name in IPL history by becoming the fastest player to score 2000 runs. He accomplished this during a match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, reaching the milestone in just 47 innings, surpassing the previous record held by Chris Gayle, who achieved it in 48 innings.
Sudharsan needed 72 runs to hit the 2000-run mark before the match began. He secured his milestone with a six off Krunal Pandya's delivery on the last ball of the ninth over. The talented batter finished the match with an impressive 100 runs off 58 balls, marking his first century of the IPL 2026 season.
Match Overview: GT vs RCB
In the match, Sudharsan's century propelled GT to a formidable total of 205/3 against RCB. After winning the toss, RCB's captain Rajat Patidar chose to field first, but the Gujarat Titans quickly took control.
Openers Shubman Gill and Sudharsan laid a solid foundation, scoring 57 runs without losing a wicket during the powerplay. Gill contributed a steady 32 runs off 24 balls, while Sudharsan stole the spotlight.
Key Partnerships and Sudharsan's Performance
The opening pair of Gill and Sudharsan reached a 100-run partnership by the 10th over. Suyash Sharma eventually dismissed Gill in the 13th over after conceding 32 runs, bringing Jos Buttler to the crease.
Sudharsan reached his half-century in just 33 balls and continued to accelerate, ultimately scoring his century off 58 balls, featuring 11 fours and 5 sixes. By the 15th over, GT had established a commanding position at 155/1.
RCB's Response in the Final Overs
RCB's bowlers faced challenges in containing the runs. Josh Hazlewood provided a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Sudharsan in the 16th over, allowing Washington Sundar to join the action.
Sundar made an immediate impact, hitting a six off Hazlewood. Suyash Sharma delivered an impressive 17th over, allowing only four runs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar followed up with a tidy over, conceding just five runs and dismissing Jos Buttler for 25, which helped slow down GT's scoring.
As GT's innings began to lose steam, Hazlewood's clinical 19th over limited runs to just eight. However, Jason Holder ignited the final over with two sixes and a boundary, pushing the Gujarat Titans past the 200-run threshold.
