Sudharsan's Surreal Test Call-Up

Sai Sudharsan expressed that receiving his first Test call-up feels 'surreal' as he joins India's squad for the upcoming five-match Test series in England.

"It's a wonderful feeling, truly special and surreal. Every young cricketer dreams of playing Test cricket and representing their country," he remarked.

A New Era for India's Top Order

With the retirements of key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Sudharsan is poised to be a part of a revamped top four for India. Although he usually opens the batting for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy, he is prepared to adapt to any batting position for the national team.

"Playing for the country is a significant privilege for any cricketer, so I won't dictate where I want to bat," Sudharsan stated.

"I will be ready for any position the coaches assign me, both mentally and skill-wise," he added.

Debuting Under Shubman Gill's Captaincy

Sudharsan's Test debut may occur under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, who has recently been appointed as India's new red-ball skipper.

"I've witnessed Shubhi's growth over the years. He is an exceptionally talented and skillful batsman," Sudharsan noted.

"I believe he will achieve great things for the country, and I am thrilled to play under him in my first Test series," he added.

Focusing on IPL Before England Tour

The much-anticipated series is set to commence on June 20, but both Sudharsan and Gill will first participate in the India A squad for a four-day match against the England Lions, starting June 6 in Northampton.

"I believe in finishing one chapter before moving to the next. The IPL is crucial right now," he explained.

"Once the IPL concludes, we will have time to prepare for the Test series," he added. Currently, Sudharsan is concentrating on the IPL, where the Gujarat Titans have advanced to the knockout stage.

Adapting from T20 to Test Cricket

Sudharsan acknowledged the challenges of shifting from the fast-paced T20 format to the more demanding Test cricket.

"Transitioning from white-ball to red-ball cricket requires time," he said.

"I focus on my fundamentals and cultivate patience, even off the field. The more patient you are, the better it reflects in your game. Test cricket demands patience and endurance, and I aim to enhance my awareness in these areas for a rewarding experience," he concluded.
