Jadhav's Bronze Medal Achievement

On Saturday, Sahil Jadhav from India earned a bronze medal in the men's individual compound event during the Archery World Cup 2026 Stage 2 held in Shanghai. The 25-year-old archer triumphed over Denmark's Martin Damsbo with a score of 147-144 in the playoff for third place, marking his first medal at the Archery World Cup.

Journey to the Bronze Medal

After trailing 30-29 in the initial round, Jadhav made a remarkable comeback, winning the next four rounds to secure his victory. In the quarter-finals, he faced Austria's Nico Wiener, the 2021 world champion, and won in a shoot-off after both competitors ended with a score of 147. However, Jadhav was narrowly defeated 147-145 by France's reigning world champion Nicolas Girard in the semi-finals, which led him to compete for the bronze.

India's Performance in Compound Events

Jadhav's bronze was the only medal for India in the compound events at this year's Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai. Last year, the Indian team had a stellar performance at the same venue, bringing home five medals in compound archery.

Challenges for Other Indian Archers

Kushal Dalal's journey ended in the quarter-finals, while former world champion Ojas Deotale was eliminated in the round of 16. The Indian women's team in the compound event also faced disappointment, losing 233-227 to Turkiye in the quarter-finals. Madhura Dhamangaonkar, who had previously won gold in Shanghai, was defeated by Alexis Ruiz 148-144 in the round of 32. Aditi Swami was the top performer among Indian women but lost in the quarter-finals to Lisell Jaatma, who had earlier knocked out Jyothi Surekha Vennam in a close round of 16 match.

Looking Ahead to Recurve Events

Despite the setbacks in compound events, India is still in the running for medals in the recurve events scheduled for Sunday. Simranjeet Kaur has advanced to the women's individual semi-finals, and the Indian women's recurve team is set to compete against China for the gold medal.
