Sagar Singh and Suraj Shine at U23 Asian Wrestling Championships

India's Greco-Roman wrestlers Sagar Singh and Suraj have made a strong impression at the U23 Asian Championships in Vietnam, both advancing to the finals in their respective categories. Sagar's tactical prowess in the 67kg category and Suraj's confident performance in the 60kg division have secured at least a silver medal for India. While other wrestlers faced tough competition, the Wrestling Federation of India praised the athletes' determination. The upcoming matches promise more excitement as India aims to continue its success in the tournament.
 

Sagar Singh and Suraj Reach Finals

India kicked off its journey at the U23 Asian Championships organized by United World Wrestling (UWW) in Da Nang, Vietnam, with a strong performance. Greco-Roman wrestlers Sagar Singh and Suraj have both advanced to the finals in their respective weight classes on the first day of the event held at the Tien Son Sport Centre.


Sagar Singh excelled in the 67kg category, demonstrating tactical skill and consistency throughout the preliminary rounds, which earned him a spot in the gold medal match. Suraj, competing in the 60kg division, also secured his place in the finals after a confident performance, ensuring at least a silver medal for India.


Day 1 Results

In the 77kg category, Kumar Sachin put up a strong fight but was narrowly defeated in a semifinal match against Alikhan Dursonov. Additionally, Indian wrestlers in the 72kg and 82kg categories were unable to advance past the initial rounds due to tough competition.

Sanjay Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India, praised the athletes' performances on the first day, stating, "I offer my heartfelt congratulations to those who have reached the finals. The competition level in Vietnam is exceptionally high, and our athletes are displaying remarkable determination and spirit on the mat. Looking Ahead

India's Greco-Roman wrestling campaign will continue tomorrow with qualification matches in various weight classes. Neeraj will kick off the challenge in the 55kg category, followed by Sumit in the 63kg division and Rohit Bura in the 87kg category. All three wrestlers are eager to secure their spots in the quarterfinals and maintain India's momentum at this continental championship.
