SA20 Season 5 Begins with a Thrilling Rematch

The SA20 league has officially unveiled its complete fixture list, kicking off with a highly anticipated rematch between the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and the Pretoria Capitals. This exciting encounter is set to take place on January 17, 2027, at St George's Park in Gqeberha, mirroring the Season 4 Final.

Fans can look forward to an action-packed weekend with four thrilling Saturday double-headers planned throughout January. The first of these will occur on January 23, featuring Durban's Super Giants facing off against Pretoria Capitals at Kingsmead, followed by the Joburg Super Kings taking on Sunrisers Eastern Cape at the Wanderers later that evening.

Additional double-header events are scheduled for January 30, February 6, and February 13, providing ample opportunities for cricket enthusiasts to enjoy a full day of matches at venues nationwide.

"Revealing the SA20 fixtures marks a significant milestone for us, signaling the start of preparations for an exciting cricket month ahead," stated Graeme Smith, the SA20 League Commissioner. He emphasized the thrill of commencing Season 5 with a repeat of one of the league's most exhilarating finals.

Smith noted, "The previous encounter between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals was a classic, and it’s fitting that they will open the season in Gqeberha on January 17, 2027."

Team Updates and Leadership Changes

The Pretoria Capitals have undergone a leadership transformation, appointing Sourav Ganguly as head coach and Keshav Maharaj as captain. This strategic shift has already yielded positive results, propelling them to the Final after previously facing early exits in the last two seasons.

Conversely, the Sunrisers have maintained their strong performance under head coach Adrian Birrell, despite some changes in their roster and captaincy, setting the stage for an electrifying opening match in the upcoming SA20 season.

Playoff Schedule and Final Venue Information

Newlands will once again host the Final on February 21, marking the second consecutive year and the third time overall since the league's inception. Boland Park in Paarl will host a Playoff match (Qualifier 1) on February 16 for the first time.

Johannesburg and the Wanderers are gearing up for an exciting week of Playoff matches, with the Eliminator scheduled for February 17 and Qualifier 2 on February 19.

"Cape Town is thrilled to host the SA20 Final again, coinciding with an extraordinary year for cricket in our city," remarked Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis. He highlighted the league's significance in the local sporting and cultural calendar, especially as the city prepares for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

The Playoff fixtures are as follows: Qualifier 1: February 16, 2027, Boland Park, Paarl; Eliminator: February 17, 2027, Wanderers, Johannesburg; Qualifier 2: February 19, 2027, Wanderers, Johannesburg; Final: February 21, 2027, Newlands, Cape Town.

"The fans in Paarl have shown incredible support for the league, and we are excited to host a Playoff match there. The Wanderers will be the center of attention as teams vie for a spot in the Final, and we are grateful to the City of Cape Town for their continued support," Smith concluded.
