RCB Secures Second Consecutive Win
On Sunday, April 5, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) achieved their second straight victory in IPL 2026, defeating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 43 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
RCB set a formidable target of 250 runs, bolstered by outstanding performances from Tim David, who scored an unbeaten 70, and Devdutt Padikkal, who contributed 50 runs. Captain Rajat Patidar also played a crucial role with a score of 43.
Despite a spirited effort from CSK, which included a rapid 50 runs off just 25 balls by Sarfaraz Khan and a lower-order contribution of 43 runs from Prashant Veer, they were bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs. RCB's bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings, ensuring a comfortable win.
Padikkal Reflects on His Performance
Devdutt Padikkal continued his impressive form from RCB's opening match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 61 runs off 26 balls. However, he expressed an unexpected sentiment regarding his dismissal after reaching fifty against CSK.
In an interview with Star Sports, Padikkal mentioned he felt 'glad' about getting out, as it allowed Tim David to take charge in the final overs. He stated, "I think at the strategic timeout, we knew we had to keep pushing, and I’m probably glad that I got out because of the way Tim went from there; it was incredible."
Tim David's Explosive Finish
Coming in at a pivotal moment with RCB at 151/3, Tim David unleashed a devastating innings, scoring 70 runs off just 25 balls, featuring 8 sixes and 3 fours, achieving a remarkable strike rate of 280. He capitalized on a no-ball from Anshul Kamboj, turning the game in RCB's favor.
David's partnership with Rajat Patidar was significant, as they combined for a 99-run stand, with David contributing nearly 71% of the runs in that partnership, showcasing his dominance during the closing stages.
Padikkal's Renewed Confidence
After a challenging previous season where he scored 247 runs in 10 matches, Devdutt Padikkal has made a remarkable comeback this season with two consecutive half-centuries. He attributes this resurgence to a newfound self-belief that has allowed him to play more aggressively.
Padikkal shared, "It’s important that I believed in myself that I can really go out there and play at a very high tempo. Over the years, I’ve not been able to do that, and coming into the last year as well." He emphasized the importance of enjoying the game and maintaining confidence.
His recent performances in domestic tournaments, including 309 runs in six matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and 725 runs in nine matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, have translated into success for RCB, making him one of their key players early in the season.
