Royal Challengers Bengaluru Moves Closer to IPL Glory with Dominant Bowling Display
RCB's Bowling Masterclass Secures IPL Final Advantage
Ahmedabad: Royal Challengers Bengaluru is on the verge of clinching their second consecutive IPL title after their bowlers effectively utilized a sluggish pitch, limiting Gujarat Titans to a disappointing total of 155 for eight in the final held on Sunday.
The pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium, characterized by a blend of red and black soil, made shot-making particularly challenging, which was evident in the Titans' batting performance.
Washington Sundar stood out with a resilient unbeaten score of 50 off 37 balls, including five fours, but the overall damage inflicted on the team was too significant to recover from.
The Titans faced additional challenges, including fatigue from their Qualifier 2 match on Friday and a delayed departure due to bad weather in Mullanpur.
However, the RCB bowlers deserve full credit for consistently hitting the right lengths on this tricky surface.
For the Titans to set a competitive score, they needed their captain Shubman Gill and opening partner B Sai Sudharsan to perform well, but they fell short.
Gill's attempt to hit a delivery from Josh Hazlewood (2/37) resulted in a leading edge, leading to an easy catch for Rajat Patidar.
Sudharsan, who was previously saved by DRS from being dismissed, also did not last long, falling to a well-placed bouncer from Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), which was caught by stumper Jitesh Sharma. Bhuvneshwar is now tied with Kagiso Rabada in the Purple Cap race with 28 wickets.
With both openers, who had each scored over 700 runs this season, dismissed, the Titans struggled, finishing the Power Play at a mere 45 for two.
The remaining batters lacked the aggression needed to mount a comeback.
Jos Buttler (19) and Washington attempted to stabilize the innings, but they were unable to shake off their defensive approach.
Young pacer Rasikh Salam Dhar (3/27) continued his impressive form, taking the wickets of Nishant Sindhu (20 off 18 balls) and Rahul Tewatia, as the Titans lost key players before reaching the 100-run mark.
The Titans had to wait until the 13th over for their first six, a powerful shot over mid-wicket off Krunal Pandya, highlighting their struggles throughout the match.
