On Sunday, the Roundglass Hockey Academy (RGHA) celebrated a significant achievement by winning the Sikh Union Club Nairobi Centenary Celebrations Hockey Tournament 2026. This prestigious event, held in Kenya's capital, commemorated the 100th anniversary of the historic Sikh Union Club and featured a competitive array of international teams.
Impressive Tournament Journey
Under the guidance of coach Kankala Vishnu and manager Manish Pandey, RGHA displayed remarkable skill and determination on the astro-turf pitches. After an initial setback, where they lost 1-4 to the host team, Nairobi Sikh Union, the academy regrouped and launched an impressive winning streak. They achieved significant victories, including a 9-0 win against London Sikh Union, a 7-1 triumph over Satellites, and an 8-3 victory against Niger Flickers, propelling them into the knockout stages.
Final Match Highlights
In the championship match against Nairobi Sikh Union, held at the Sikh Union Club, RGHA showcased their prowess with a 4-1 win. The match started with a penalty corner goal for the hosts in the first minute. However, RGHA quickly responded with two goals from Jarman Singh within the first ten minutes. They further solidified their lead with additional goals from Jobanpreet Singh and Gurwinder Singh in the 34th and 46th minutes, respectively, avenging their earlier defeat.
Celebrating a Successful Season
This victory marks another highlight in a successful season for Roundglass Hockey Academy, which has also seen several players selected for the Indian U-18 and Senior National coaching camps.
