Rohit Sharma Arrives in Ranchi for ODI Series

On Thursday, November 27, former Indian captain and renowned batsman Rohit Sharma arrived in Ranchi in preparation for the first ODI of a three-match series against South Africa, scheduled to commence on November 30 at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium. This marks Rohit's return to international cricket after his last appearance in the ODI series against Australia.

Significance of Rohit's Return

Rohit Sharma is set to play his first international match at home since November of the previous year. His presence, alongside Virat Kohli, is anticipated to uplift fans following India's disappointing 0-2 Test series loss to South Africa earlier this week.

Focus on ODIs

Having retired from T20Is and Tests, Rohit Sharma is now concentrating solely on ODIs, aiming to extend his career in this format until the 2027 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Rohit Sharma's Humorous Encounter at the Airport

Rohit Sharma is not only known for his on-field prowess but also for his witty remarks off the field. Upon his arrival in Ranchi, he was escorted from Birsa Munda Airport under tight security. Indian cricketer Shahbaz Nadeem approached him, and Rohit humorously intervened when security staff failed to recognize Nadeem, saying, "Aare yeh toh hamara dost hai, ye toh hamara dekhbhal kar raha hai."

Rohit's Dedication and Training

Rohit had his first training session on November 28 at the Ranchi Stadium, where he showcased his skills by hitting impressive sixes in the nets. With the 2027 World Cup on the horizon, he is keen on utilizing every ODI series to refine his game and ensure he remains a part of India's long-term ODI strategy. Although he hasn't officially committed to the 2027 World Cup, his participation in the ongoing series indicates his desire to stay engaged and evaluate his readiness for the tournament.

Mentorship Role

During practice, Rohit was observed mentoring Yashasvi Jaiswal, focusing more on guiding him than on his own batting. For Jaiswal, Rohit embodies the roles of mentor, coach, and elder brother.

Rohit Sharma's Impressive ODI Record

Rohit Sharma boasts a commendable record against South Africa in ODIs, having scored 806 runs, which includes three centuries and three fifties, at an average of 33.58 across 26 matches. Overall, he is among the top run-scorers in ODIs, with 11,370 runs, comprising 33 centuries and 59 fifties, at an average of 49.22 in 276 matches.
