New York, Sep 1: Roger Federer was celebrated at the US Open on Tuesday (IST) as he received his International Tennis Hall of Fame ring at Arthur Ashe Stadium, just two days following his formal induction in Newport.

The legendary Swiss player, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, returned to one of tennis's most prestigious venues for this special moment. Former World No. 1 Kim Clijsters, who is also the Co-President of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and a 2017 inductee, presented him with the ring in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Federer proudly displayed the ring and celebrated with the audience as they applauded one of the sport's all-time greats.

"It’s wonderful to be back in New York. Playing here last Tuesday with the legends and expressing my gratitude to everyone who has supported me has been amazing... Being inducted into the Hall of Fame allowed me to reflect on all the incredible people who have helped me throughout my journey, the game I cherish, and what it has given me,” Federer remarked, as reported by ATP.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside former American player and broadcaster Mary Carillo on Saturday, marking yet another significant achievement in a career that boasts 103 tour-level titles and 20 Grand Slam victories. Federer also held the top position in the ATP rankings for 310 weeks.

During his visit to New York, Federer participated in an exhibition match featuring members of the ATP No. 1 Club, where he played a set against Andy Roddick and later teamed up with John McEnroe to face Roddick and Andre Agassi.

On Monday, Federer also watched the opening-round match of American player Ben Shelton before receiving his Hall of Fame ring.

Shelton managed to bounce back from a challenging start to defeat Tallon Griekspoor with scores of 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(3), 6-2, advancing to the next round at Flushing Meadows. The American, cheered on by a vibrant Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd, regained his composure after losing the first set and took control of the match. This victory follows Shelton's successful title defense at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Canada less than three weeks ago.

For Federer, the evening was a celebration of a different nature, as he returned to the stadium where he had created countless unforgettable memories, this time to receive accolades for a career that has firmly established him among the legends of tennis.
