Roger Binny Resigns as BCCI President; Rajeev Shukla Takes Interim Charge

In a significant shift within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Roger Binny has resigned from his role as president. Rajeev Shukla, the Vice-President, will serve as the acting chief until the upcoming elections next month. The BCCI is currently focused on securing new sponsorship deals, especially with the Asia Cup approaching. Shukla's leadership will be pivotal during this transition, as discussions about terminating existing contracts and finding new sponsors are underway. Binny, who recently turned 70, remains eligible to contest in the elections, potentially paving the way for his return to the presidency.

Roger Binny Steps Down from BCCI Presidency

Roger Binny, the former Indian fast bowler and current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has reportedly resigned from his position, marking a significant change in the leadership of India's wealthiest sports governing body.

According to various reports, Rajeev Shukla, who has been serving as the Vice-President, has been appointed as the acting president until the forthcoming elections, which are anticipated to take place next month.

The recent Apex Council meeting of the BCCI was conducted under Shukla's guidance, focusing primarily on sponsorship matters. Sources indicate that the meeting addressed the termination of Dream11's contract and the search for a new sponsor for the next two and a half years.

As the Asia Cup is set to commence on September 10, the BCCI is actively seeking new sponsorship deals while planning for a long-term agreement.

In 2015, Shukla was re-elected unanimously as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and on December 18, 2020, he was elected unopposed as the BCCI's vice-president. Binny, who celebrated his 70th birthday last month, remains eligible to run in the upcoming elections and could potentially reclaim the presidency if re-elected.
