Robust Security Measures for T20 World Cup Final Between India and New Zealand
Comprehensive Security for the Final Match
As the Indian cricket team prepares to face New Zealand in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium this Sunday, local authorities have implemented extensive security protocols for the event. Neeraj Kumar Badgujar, the Joint Commissioner of Police for Sector-1 in Ahmedabad, stated that over 121 police officers and more than 2,000 personnel will be on duty. Special barricades have been set up at gates 1 and 2 to manage the large crowds, ensuring smooth access for attendees. Additionally, more than 300 CCTV cameras will be installed throughout the stadium to oversee the match operations, and VVIP security measures have also been finalized. Traffic police will be significantly present on the roads to manage the flow of vehicles.
What’s at Stake for Both Teams
As the final approaches, India aims to achieve several milestones: becoming the first team to defend a T20 World Cup title, the first host nation to win the T20 World Cup, and the first to secure three T20 World Cup championships. Conversely, New Zealand faces the challenge of containing India's formidable batting lineup and countering the precision of Jasprit Bumrah.
Journey to the Final
India and New Zealand have taken different routes to reach the final, both showcasing impressive batting in their semi-final matches. New Zealand faced setbacks in the group stage, losing to South Africa and England, but excelled in the semi-finals. They restricted South Africa to 169/8 and achieved a remarkable nine-wicket victory in just 12.5 overs, highlighted by Finn Allen's record-breaking 33-ball century, the fastest in T20 World Cup history.
On the other hand, India remained unbeaten in the group stage, with their only defeat occurring against South Africa in the Super Eight. Their semi-final against England was a thrilling encounter, where India scored 253/7, narrowly defeating England by seven runs.
Head-to-Head Record
Historically, New Zealand has had the upper hand in T20 World Cup encounters, having defeated India in 2007, 2016, and 2021. However, recent form favors India, who dominated their latest T20I series against New Zealand with a convincing 4-1 victory.
