Roberto Carlos Undergoes Emergency Heart Surgery in Brazil
Roberto Carlos Faces Health Challenge
Brasilia [Brazil], December 31: Renowned Brazilian footballer and Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos recently had to undergo emergency heart surgery, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Regarded as one of the greatest left-backs in football history, Carlos has represented Brazil in over 120 international matches. He returned to Brazil after a busy 2026, which included participating in the FIFA World Cup 2026 draw. Initially, he sought medical attention for a minor blood clot in his leg.
However, a comprehensive MRI scan revealed a heart condition, necessitating immediate surgery for the 52-year-old, who was part of the victorious 2002 FIFA World Cup team. The operation, typically lasting around 40 minutes, extended to nearly three hours due to unforeseen complications, according to reports.
Fortunately, Carlos is recovering well post-surgery and will remain under medical observation for the next 48 hours. Through his representatives, he conveyed, "I am fine now."
Best known for his tenure at Real Madrid from 1996 to 2007, Carlos made 370 appearances for the club. He has also played for Brazilian teams such as Uniao Sao Joao, Palmeiras, and Corinthians, as well as the Italian club Inter Milan. Additionally, he had a brief stint with the now-defunct Indian Super League team Delhi Dynamos from 2015 to 2016 before transitioning to a managerial role.
Throughout his illustrious career, Carlos has secured numerous prestigious titles, including the FIFA World Cup, La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Copa America. His time at Real Madrid was particularly notable, as he won three UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga championships, solidifying his status as a football icon.
