Rishabh Pant's Remarkable Achievement

Rishabh Pant has showcased his exceptional talent once again, bouncing back from a lackluster IPL 2025 season. Following a stunning Test century, he has now surpassed former Indian captain MS Dhoni in the record for the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper. This marks Pant's seventh Test century, with four of them coming against England. During the third day of the first Test, he made a significant contribution by catching centurion Ollie Pope off the bowling of Prasidh Krishna, which also marked his 150th Test catch.

Pant joins the elite company of wicketkeepers who have achieved this milestone, alongside MS Dhoni and Syed Kirmani. He reached 150 catches in just 44 matches, while Dhoni accumulated 256 catches over 90 matches, and Kirmani recorded 160 catches in 88 games. Pant's record-breaking performance continued in the Leeds Test, where he became the most prolific Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in a Test match, achieving his seventh century on the second day against England. He hit a six on the first ball of the 100th over of India's innings, marking a significant milestone after his last century against Bangladesh in September 2024.

Dhoni's Test career saw him score 4,876 runs, including six centuries and 33 fifties, with an average of 38.09, making him the leading run-scorer among Indian wicketkeeper-batters. In contrast, Pant has amassed 3,000 runs in 44 Tests, averaging nearly 44, with 15 fifties and a remarkable 134 runs off 134 balls in this innings. Following him on the list of Indian wicketkeeper-batters are Wriddhiman Saha with two centuries, and Syed Kirmani and Farokh Engineer, each with one century.

In the ongoing Test match, Pant's impressive 134 runs off 178 balls contributed to India's total of 471 runs against England, under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. On Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah excelled with the ball, taking three wickets to help India maintain a strong position. Despite an early loss of opener Zak Crawley, England ended the day at 209 for 3, with Harry Brook reaching his 12th Test half-century.
