Rishabh Pant Aims for Historic Century at Edgbaston in Second Test Against England

Rishabh Pant is set to make history in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, where he aims to score another century. With impressive performances in previous matches, Pant could join an elite group of cricket legends. His remarkable record in England and the potential to achieve consecutive centuries has fans eager to see if he can continue his stellar form. The second Test begins on July 2, and all eyes will be on Pant as he seeks to solidify his place in cricket history.

Rishabh Pant's Impressive Form

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is on the brink of joining the ranks of cricket legends such as Don Bradman, Rahul Dravid, and Brian Lara with a potential century at Edgbaston during the upcoming second Test against England.

Pant has been in exceptional form, showcasing his skills with scores of 134 and 118 in the first Test at Leeds. Unfortunately, these efforts were not enough to secure a win for India, as they fell short of defending a target of 371 runs, losing by five wickets.

Pant's Record in England

The dynamic left-handed batsman boasts an impressive record in England, accumulating 808 runs across 10 Tests and 19 innings, averaging 42.52, which includes four centuries and two fifties. His highest score stands at 146.

During his last appearance at Edgbaston in July 2022, Pant delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 146 runs off just 111 balls, featuring 19 fours and four sixes. His partnership with Ravindra Jadeja helped India recover from a precarious position of 98/5 to reach 416 runs, although they ultimately lost the match as England chased down the target of 378.

Potential to Join Elite Company

Should Pant achieve another century at Edgbaston, he will become the seventh visiting batter to score centuries in three consecutive Tests in England, joining the likes of Bradman, Warren Bardsley, Dravid, Lara, Charles George Macartney, and Daryl Mitchell.

He would also be the second Indian, after Dravid, to accomplish this feat in 23 years, having previously scored 115 at Nottingham, followed by 148 at Leeds and 217 at The Oval.

Chasing History

The most recent player to achieve this milestone was New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, who scored 108 at Lord's, 190 at Nottingham, and 109 at Leeds.

Pant has already surpassed MS Dhoni in terms of the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter and runs by an Asian wicketkeeper-batter in SENA conditions. He also made history as the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score twin centuries in a Test at Leeds. Will he continue this remarkable streak in the series?

The second Test is scheduled to commence on July 2.
