Rinku Singh Expected to Rejoin Team Before Key T20 World Cup Match
Rinku Singh's Anticipated Return
On Wednesday, India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak announced that left-handed batsman Rinku Singh is likely to rejoin the squad by the evening. This comes ahead of India's critical ICC Men's T20 World Cup Super 8 match against Zimbabwe in Chennai.
Reason for Rinku's Absence
Rinku was absent from the team's practice session earlier due to a family emergency, as reported by sources. While several players, including Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Arshdeep Singh, Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson, participated in the practice, Rinku was notably missing.
"Rinku's father is unwell, and he took a break. We are hopeful he will rejoin the team by this evening," the batting coach stated during the pre-match press briefing.
Rinku's Performance in the World Cup
Rinku's performance in the World Cup has been inconsistent, often coming to bat with limited balls remaining. He has scored only 24 runs across five innings, remaining unbeaten twice, with a top score of 11*. In 10 T20I matches this year, he has accumulated 115 runs in eight innings, averaging 28.75, with a strike rate of 132.18 and a highest score of 44*.
India's Critical Match Against Zimbabwe
India faces a must-win situation against Zimbabwe on Thursday in Chennai. Following a disappointing 76-run defeat to South Africa in their Super Eight phase opener, the team must secure victories in their remaining matches to stay in contention for the title and rely on South Africa to remain unbeaten in the Super Eight phase.
