Athletes supported by the Reliance Foundation made a significant impact at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing a total of three medals: two silver and one bronze. The historic nature of these achievements adds to their significance.

Historic Achievements by Reliance Foundation Athletes

The trio of Sreeshankar Murali, Lovlina Borgohain, and Tejaswin Shankar proudly represented the Reliance Foundation, each earning a podium finish, as highlighted in a recent press release.

Sreeshankar Murali's Remarkable Silver Streak

Sreeshankar Murali successfully replicated his silver medal performance from the last Commonwealth Games, marking a remarkable comeback after missing the Paris Olympics due to a serious knee injury. He has now become the first Indian to win multiple long jump medals at the Commonwealth Games, maintaining an impressive record of jumping over 8 meters in every competition this year.

Lovlina Borgohain Joins an Elite Group

Lovlina Borgohain added a silver medal to her impressive collection, becoming only the third Indian boxer to medal at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games, following in the footsteps of Mary Kom and Vijender Singh. She faced a narrow defeat in a fiercely contested final against Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree.

Tejaswin Shankar's Historic Decathlon Bronze

Tejaswin Shankar solidified his status as one of India's premier athletes by winning a bronze in the decathlon, marking India's first medal in this event. He is also the first Indian to medal in multiple disciplines at the Commonwealth Games, having previously won a high jump medal in Birmingham. His determination was evident as he competed with knee tape after withdrawing from the high jump event following an unsuccessful attempt.

Strong Performances from Other Athletes

Other Reliance Foundation-supported athletes also showcased their talents, with Aadarsh Ram (men's high jump) and Lokesh Sathyanathan (men's long jump) finishing fifth. Tejas Shirse (men's 110m hurdles) and Yashas Palaksha (men's 400m hurdles) secured eighth place in their respective finals. Animesh Kujur advanced to the semifinals of the men's 200m event, impressively defeating Emmanuel Eseme, the 100m champion from Cameroon, in his heat.

Boosting Confidence for Upcoming Asian Games

With many of these athletes set to compete at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya later this year, their performances in Glasgow will undoubtedly provide them with valuable confidence and insights for this significant multi-sport event.
