RCB Clinches IPL Title with Victory Over Gujarat Titans
RCB Triumphs in IPL Final
Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a five-wicket victory against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans (GT), marking their place as the third team in IPL history to successfully defend their title. With a stellar half-century from Virat Kohli, RCB chased down a target of 156 runs with 12 balls remaining. Following the match, Gill expressed his admiration for RCB through an Instagram story, stating, "Played bold, well deserved @royalchallengers.bengaluru." GT, batting first, could only post a total of 155 runs, with Gill departing early after scoring just 10 runs off 8 balls. His opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, managed 12 runs, highlighting the team's reliance on their openers, whose failure contributed to their loss.
Jos Buttler struggled to find form, scoring 19 runs off 23 balls. Washington Sundar, however, provided some resistance with an unbeaten 50 runs off 37 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to reach 20 runs.
RCB Completes the Chase in 18 Overs
RCB was always in control of the chase, finishing the innings in just 18 overs. Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer set a solid foundation, adding 62 runs for the first wicket in just 4.3 overs. Iyer, who played ahead of Phil Salt, scored 32 runs off 16 balls at an impressive strike rate of 200. Although RCB lost three wickets after Iyer's dismissal, Kohli remained steadfast, contributing significantly with 41 runs for the fifth wicket alongside Tim David. Despite facing challenges towards the end, Kohli hit the winning six, securing RCB's second IPL title. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award, while GT finished as runners-up for the second consecutive year.
