RCB Aims for Humble Start in IPL 2026 After Historic Win
Embracing a Fresh Start
Mo Bobat, the director of cricket for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), emphasized the team's intention to approach the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with a sense of humility. Following their first title victory last year, RCB is determined not to let past success influence their mindset. Bobat stated that the team will treat the upcoming season as a new beginning, prioritizing fundamental skills and a humble attitude over previous achievements.
"This is a new campaign. It's a new season. Just like last year, we weren't burdened by the 17-year wait. This time, we won't let the success of one year inflate our egos. Our focus is on our game, our fundamentals, and entertaining our fans. RCB has always aimed to put on a show, both on and off the field," Bobat remarked.
Starting Fresh, Not Carrying Baggage
Bobat acknowledged the ever-changing nature of franchise cricket, where players frequently join and leave teams. He pointed out that not all members of RCB share the same history regarding the 17-year title drought, as some, including himself, are relatively new to the franchise. "Franchise cricket is transient, and while our fans have long awaited that trophy, not everyone involved shares that perspective. For instance, this is only my second season with RCB," he explained.
Optimism Amidst Emotional Journeys
Bobat expressed that he does not feel weighed down by RCB's previous struggles, bringing a fresh perspective and optimism into his second season, a sentiment echoed by many in the squad. He acknowledged Virat Kohli's unique experience, having navigated the highs and lows of the franchise's journey, making the 2025 title win particularly emotional for him. "While I recognize the years without a trophy, I personally don't carry that burden. I bring fresh energy and optimism, which is true for much of the team. Virat's journey is special; he has experienced the full spectrum of emotions over the years, making the final game of IPL 2025 a beautiful moment to witness," Bobat added.
Title Defence Begins
As the defending champions, RCB will commence their title defence against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
