Ashwin's Predicted CSK Squad for IPL 2026

Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his anticipated playing XI for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL 2026, expressing worries regarding the team's bowling composition. After finishing at the bottom of the table in IPL 2025, CSK is set to kick off their season against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30.

In Ashwin's proposed lineup, the top three positions feature Ayush Mhatre, Sanju Samson, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Following them, Shivam Dube is positioned at four, with Dewald Brevis at five and Prashant Veer at six. MS Dhoni is slated for the seventh spot, Jamie Overton at eight, Noor Ahmed at nine, Matt Henry at ten, and Khaleel Ahmed at eleven. For the impact player role, Ashwin has suggested options including Anshul Kamboj, Shreyas Gopal, or Rahul Chahar.

Concerns Over Bowling Strategy

Ashwin raised concerns about CSK's bowling strategy, particularly in the middle and death overs, despite a strong powerplay performance. He highlighted the need for strategic use of Noor Ahmed, cautioning that if Noor bowls during the powerplay, it could limit his availability later in the match. This situation may require the addition of another leg spinner, such as Rahul Chahar or Shreyas Gopal, as an impact substitute.

"I have my doubts about who will partner Noor Ahmed during the middle overs and in the death overs. I am not concerned about the powerplay; CSK has addressed both batting and bowling in that phase. Matt Henry is arguably the best new-ball bowler available right now," Ashwin elaborated.

He further noted that if Noor is utilized in the powerplay, CSK might face challenges later in the innings. "If that is the strategy, then it’s essential to include another leg-spinner to handle the middle overs," he advised.

The Importance of Shivam Dube and Noor Ahmed

Ashwin also discussed the potential role of Shivam Dube, suggesting he could serve as a sixth or seventh bowler, but emphasized that Noor Ahmed's effectiveness in the middle overs would be crucial. "If he can manage the middle overs and secure wickets consistently throughout the season, that will significantly enhance CSK's chances," Ashwin remarked.

He underscored the necessity for CSK to effectively manage the fifth and sixth overs without overloading Noor during the powerplay. Striking a balance between specialists for the powerplay and those who can contain runs in the middle overs will be vital for their success this season.
