Rajasthan Royals Secure Victory Against Chennai Super Kings

In a crucial match to avoid finishing last, Rajasthan Royals (RR) claimed a victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), concluding their IPL 2025 season with a commendable win, marking their fourth of the year. This result sees RR finishing in 9th place, while CSK experiences a historic low, ending at the bottom of the table for the first time in their IPL history.

CSK batted first but struggled from the outset, losing crucial wickets during the powerplay. Despite a brief revival led by Dewald Brevis, the innings lacked the necessary strength towards the end. Brevis's powerful hitting raised some hopes, but a series of late wickets left CSK with a disappointing total of 187. Mhatre showed potential, but like much of CSK's season, the innings fell flat when it mattered most.

RR's chase began with a stroke of luck as Yashasvi Jaiswal was given a second chance on the very first ball, with MS Dhoni, typically reliable, unable to make the catch. This mistake proved to be costly. Vaibhav and captain Sanju Samson formed a solid partnership before both were dismissed in quick succession by Ravichandran Ashwin. Riyan Parag's early exit gave CSK a glimmer of hope.

However, RR responded decisively. Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer took control, ensuring a smooth finish to the innings. The pair batted with confidence and composure, leading RR to a comfortable victory — a welcome change for a team that had struggled with run chases throughout the season.

This marked only RR's second successful chase out of ten attempts this season, the other being against GT, but it was executed with a newfound confidence that had been missing for much of the campaign.

For CSK, this season has been one to forget, with a total of 10 losses, matching their worst record from 2022. Their inability to defend totals has been particularly concerning, as they failed to secure a win in five attempts while defending.

CSK’s Most Losses in an IPL Season:

10 – 2022

10 – 2025*

8 – 2012

8 – 2020

This match was yet another disappointing performance for a team that has appeared uninspired throughout the season. Whether it was poor batting starts, ineffective bowling at critical moments, or missed chances in the field, CSK's 2025 campaign will be remembered as one of their least impressive.

For Rajasthan, while this victory does not redeem their season, it provides a positive note to build upon. They demonstrated poise in their chase and played with a level of assurance that had been lacking. For CSK, a painful but necessary overhaul is on the horizon.
