Riyan Parag's Insights on the Match

Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR), expressed that his team set a competitive score against Gujarat Titans (GT), deeming it defendable on a pitch that improved for batting in the second half after the heavy roller was applied. He observed that the surface provided grip and support for slower deliveries during the first innings, estimating that a score around 230 would be average, while 240 would pose a significant challenge. Parag acknowledged the need for early wickets from his openers, which unfortunately did not materialize, complicating the match for his team.

Gujarat Titans Secure Victory

A remarkable century from Shubman Gill, along with a strong partnership with Sai Sudharsan, led Gujarat Titans to triumph over Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League held in Mullanpur on Friday. This victory sets up a title match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Ahmedabad on Sunday. After RR batted first, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered an impressive performance with 96 runs off 47 balls, supported by Donovan Ferreira's quick 38 runs off 11 balls, helping RR reach 214/6 in their 20 overs. In response, Gill scored 104 runs off 53 balls, and his 167-run partnership with Sudharsan, who contributed 58 runs off 32 balls, secured a three-wicket win for GT.

'A Defendable Score': Riyan Parag

"It was a defendable score; I felt that after the heavy roller, the pitch improved in the second innings. The bowlers found some grip in the first innings, and the slower deliveries performed well. I believed 230 would have been a par score, while 240 would have been tough. We needed early wickets from our openers, but that didn't happen, making it challenging for us," Parag stated post-match.

Positive Reflections on the Season

Parag reflected positively on the Rajasthan Royals' season, highlighting several positives despite the team's inexperience. He noted that many did not anticipate RR's qualification, praising the young players for their strong performances and expressing confidence that the squad will continue to grow. "In summary, there were many positives. We weren't expected to qualify due to our young and inexperienced roster, but many youngsters stepped up and can only improve from here," he remarked.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Stellar Performance

Parag commended Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his intelligent batting approach, emphasizing that the young player does more than just power-hitting. He noted Sooryavanshi's ability to calculate his innings and shot selection, expressing optimism for his future contributions to the Rajasthan Royals. "I can't express it adequately; he doesn't just slog. You could see his innings today—he calculates and plays his shots. I hope he continues to excel in his career and helps us win a second title," he concluded.

Sooryavanshi's Record-Breaking Season

Sooryavanshi delivered another outstanding performance in a knockout match, scoring 86 runs off 47 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes, at a strike rate of 204.26. Throughout the season, he has amassed 776 runs in 16 matches, averaging 48.50 with a strike rate of 237.30, including one century and five fifties, with a top score of 103. His season ranks as the fifth-best in IPL history for runs, following Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and David Warner.

In total, Sooryavanshi has scored 1,028 runs in 23 matches, averaging 44.69 with a strike rate of 228.95, featuring two centuries and six fifties, with a best score of 103. He is the fastest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs, achieving this in just 440 balls, surpassing West Indies legend Andre Russell's record of 545 balls. In terms of innings, he is the second fastest, reaching the milestone in 23 innings, just behind Shaun Marsh's record of 21 innings.
