Rajasthan Royals Coach Rahul Dravid Reflects on Season's Challenges After Loss to Punjab Kings
Rajasthan Royals' Struggles Continue
Following a narrow 10-run defeat to Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals' head coach Rahul Dravid expressed his disappointment, marking the team's 10th loss this season. With only one match remaining, the Royals are facing the possibility of finishing in the bottom two, a stark contrast to their initial promising start.
“There’s no point just blaming the batter. To be honest, I didn’t think it was a 220 wicket. We gave 20 runs extra,” Dravid stated during the post-match press conference.
Despite a hopeful beginning, highlighted by a remarkable century from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the season has unraveled due to persistent issues in the bowling lineup and an inconsistent lower-middle order. Dravid identified ineffective death bowling and an inability to finish games as significant factors contributing to the team's decline.
“It’s been five games now where the margins have really been one or two hits we just haven’t been able to find. We’re not losing too many wickets, we were five down today too, but we haven’t been able to hit those big shots,” he explained.

Bowling Woes and Lack of Finishers Plague Royals
Throughout the season, RR's bowling has struggled, particularly in the final overs. In matches against Gujarat and Delhi, they conceded over 70 runs in the last five overs.
“We’ve probably not been good enough with the ball, both at taking wickets and controlling runs. We’re chasing 200-220 every game,” Dravid acknowledged.
With no standout performers among the death bowlers, RR has found it challenging to exert pressure during critical moments. Nevertheless, Dravid remains hopeful that the team will rebound stronger next season.

Dravid also provided insights into Suryavanshi's inconsistent performances, including a two-ball duck following his impressive 35-ball century.
“You’ve got to allow young players to go through ups and downs,” he remarked.
As the Royals prepare for their final match against Chennai Super Kings, they aim to conclude a challenging season on a positive note and start planning for a necessary rebuild.
