PV Sindhu Faces Challenges on the Badminton Circuit: Aiming for Comeback
PV Sindhu's Struggles in 2023
This year has been challenging for PV Sindhu on the badminton scene. A series of early exits from various tournaments has raised concerns about her ability to maintain her status as one of the elite players globally.
Recently, Sindhu faced defeat against Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwang in the Round of 16 at the Indonesian Open. This marked her third early exit in the Round of 16 this year. She has only reached the quarterfinals once, during the India Open in January. Despite these setbacks, Sindhu remains optimistic about her future performances.
Sindhu expressed, "The recent outcomes do trouble me, but I see some improvement. A few tournaments ago, I was losing more easily, but I've had some tough matches against top competitors. That’s a positive takeaway for me to build on. We are making some adjustments, and I hope to showcase that in China and Japan."
The former world champion also mentioned that her training for the upcoming events is progressing well.
She stated, "In terms of fitness, everything is on track, and training is going smoothly. We have two weeks before heading to Japan and China, allowing us to prepare adequately. After a series of back-to-back tournaments and constant travel, it’s crucial to ensure I’m fit both physically and mentally."
Sindhu concluded by reflecting on her achievements, saying, "I’m grateful for all the medals I’ve won. However, it’s essential to maintain my performance. While some may think there’s no pressure since I’ve achieved so much, I know I need to keep pushing myself. The competition isn’t the same as it was a decade ago."
