PV Sindhu Dominates Wong Ling Ching to Advance at Japan Open Badminton

In an impressive display, PV Sindhu triumphed over Wong Ling Ching in straight games at the Japan Open Super 750 badminton tournament. The two-time Olympic medalist showcased her skills, advancing to the second round with a score of 21-14, 21-11. Meanwhile, India's mixed doubles pair, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, also moved forward in the competition. However, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde faced an early exit. Sindhu's commanding performance sets the stage for her upcoming matches, as she aims for further success in this prestigious tournament.
 

Sindhu's Impressive Victory


Tokyo: PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, secured a convincing victory against Malaysia's Wong Ling Ching, advancing to the second round of the Japan Open Super 750 badminton tournament held in Tokyo on Tuesday.


Ranked 10th in the world, Sindhu, who was crowned world champion in 2019, showcased a solid performance, defeating Wong, who is ranked 37th, with scores of 21-14 and 21-11 in the first round.


In mixed doubles, India's Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also progressed to the next round after overcoming Scotland's Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson with a score of 21-16, 21-14.


Conversely, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde were eliminated in the opening round, losing to the top-seeded Chinese pair Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping with scores of 11-21, 10-21.


Sindhu vs Wong


From the start, Sindhu took control of the match, establishing a 7-4 lead early on. Despite Wong's efforts to keep pace, her unforced errors allowed Sindhu to extend her advantage to 11-6 at the mid-game break.


Sindhu appeared at ease during the rallies, skillfully mixing her shots to increase her lead to 14-9. Her precise backhand net dribbles, clever drops, and well-executed half-smashes were particularly effective.


Although Sindhu made a few errors, including a long toss and a wide net shot, Wong was unable to capitalize on these mistakes.


A powerful smash gave Sindhu seven game points, and she clinched the first game on her second attempt.


After the break, Sindhu continued her strong performance, quickly building an 8-2 lead and extending it to 11-3 at the interval.


The gap widened as Wong struggled with her accuracy, allowing Sindhu to surge ahead to a 16-5 lead. Wong managed to score three points in a row but soon faltered again, giving Sindhu the upper hand.


A net error from Wong provided Sindhu with 10 match points. Although she missed the first, Wong's subsequent error sealed a straightforward victory for the Indian star.


Later in the day, third seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are set to compete against Denmark's Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard in the men's doubles opening round.


Additionally, Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun will face off against Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan in another men's doubles match.
