Vantaa, Finland - October 8: Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has successfully reached the quarter-finals of the Arctic Open 2026, showcasing her skills with a straight-games win against Japan's Riko Gunji on Thursday.


Seeded sixth in this BWF Super 500 tournament, Sindhu triumphed over Gunji with scores of 21-15, 21-15 in a match that lasted 49 minutes. She is set to face Thailand's top seed and former world champion Ratchanok Intanon in the upcoming quarter-finals, according to reports from Olympics.com.


The first game was tightly contested, with both players tied at 15 points before Sindhu unleashed a powerful finish, scoring six consecutive points to clinch the game.


The second game mirrored the first, as the score reached 13-all. However, Sindhu intensified her play during the critical moments, winning eight out of the next ten points to secure her victory in straight games.


In contrast, fellow World Championships medallists Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy faced early exits in the men's singles category at the Arctic Open 2026.


Srikanth, currently ranked 31st globally, initially won against Canada's world No. 34, Brian Yang, but ultimately lost the match with scores of 15-21, 21-15, and 21-13. Meanwhile, Prannoy, ranked 38th, was defeated by Denmark's fourth seed Anders Antonsen, struggling throughout the match and losing 21-10, 21-9.
