Punjab Kings Maintain Unbeaten Streak with Victory Over Lucknow Super Giants
Punjab Kings Triumph in IPL 2026 Match
In a thrilling encounter, Punjab Kings secured a 54-run victory against Lucknow Super Giants in match 29 of the IPL 2026, continuing their unbeaten run this season.
Batting first, the runners-up from the previous season amassed a total of 254 runs, largely thanks to impressive half-centuries from Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly. Connolly, aged 22, played a pivotal role, contributing 87 runs off just 46 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes, while forming a remarkable 182-run partnership with Arya.
Post-Match Insights from Connolly
During the post-match press conference, Connolly expressed his admiration for Arya's batting, stating, "The wicket was pretty nice. Priyansh and Prabhsimran have their unique styles, and Priyansh has been successful over the last couple of years. I was just in awe at the other end, enjoying his batting."
He further added, "Batting first doesn't change much; we focus on playing good cricket shots, applying pressure on the bowlers, and capitalizing on loose deliveries, which we did effectively tonight."
Historic Achievement for PBKS
With this victory, Punjab Kings sit atop the points table, remaining unbeaten with five wins and one no result, totaling 11 points. In contrast, Lucknow Super Giants find themselves in eighth place with two wins and four losses.
PBKS's innings concluded at 254/7, highlighted by Arya's explosive 93 runs off 37 balls, featuring four boundaries and nine sixes. Although LSG had a promising start with a 61-run opening partnership between Ayush Badoni (35 runs off 21 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (40 runs off 28 balls), along with a counter-attack from Rishabh Pant (43 runs off 23 balls), it ultimately fell short.
Looking Ahead
This win marks a historic moment for PBKS, as they become the first team to remain unbeaten in their first six matches of an IPL season.
Connolly reflected on their unbeaten status, stating, "We will take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead. Concentrating on the present is crucial for us, and we aim to improve with every session. We're excited about the upcoming matches."
Their next challenge will be against Delhi Capitals on Saturday in New Delhi.
