PSL 2026 to Proceed Without Spectators

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Sunday that the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will take place without any fans in attendance, due to the escalating tensions in the region stemming from the Iran-USA-Israel conflict.

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, confirmed that this year's PSL will be limited to two venues: Karachi and Lahore.

"The PSL is a prestigious international brand for us. Therefore, it will commence as scheduled on March 26, but without spectators," Naqvi stated during a press conference.

Despite the situation, Naqvi, alongside PSL CEO Salman Naseer, reassured that there are no significant security threats regarding the PSL being hosted in Pakistan.

These measures were implemented in response to the government's austerity policies due to the regional unrest. Naqvi mentioned that international players would begin arriving in Pakistan starting tonight.

Additionally, the PCB has decided to cancel the grand opening ceremony that typically precedes the PSL, as part of the cost-cutting measures.

To mitigate the impact on the eight franchises, the PCB plans to compensate them with the estimated gate revenue from the originally scheduled venues, which included Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Multan.

Naqvi also indicated that the PCB's legal team would address the contracts of players who opted to leave the PSL for the Indian Premier League.

"The participation of top List A players in the PSL reflects the league's growth," he remarked.
