PSG Makes History with UEFA Champions League Victory Under Luis Enrique

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has made history by winning the UEFA Champions League title for the second consecutive year under the guidance of Luis Enrique. In a thrilling final against Arsenal, the match ended in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. This victory not only marks PSG's second title but also places them among an elite group of teams that have achieved the domestic league and European Cup double in consecutive seasons. With this win, Enrique has solidified his status as one of the most successful managers in Champions League history, now eyeing a potential three-peat in 2026.

Historic UEFA Champions League Win for PSG

On May 30, Luis Enrique and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) etched their names in history by securing the UEFA Champions League (UCL) title for the 2025-26 season. They triumphed over Premier League champions Arsenal in a nail-biting final held at the Puskas Stadium in Budapest, which ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time. The match was decided by a penalty shootout, marking PSG's second consecutive UCL title, having previously won their first in 2025 with a commanding 5-0 victory in the final. Arsenal, on the other hand, continues to seek their first title in this prestigious tournament.

In addition to their European success, PSG also clinched the Ligue 1 championship this season.

Luis Enrique Leads PSG to Remarkable Achievement

Under Enrique's leadership, PSG has become only the third team in history to achieve the domestic league and European Cup/UCL double in consecutive seasons. This remarkable feat was last accomplished by Ajax 53 years ago, with Real Madrid being the only other team to do so. Notably, PSG is the first club to achieve this since the rebranding of the UCL in 1992.

Managers Who Have Achieved the European Cup/UCL and Domestic League Double in Consecutive Seasons
Team Manager Years
Real Madrid José Villalonga 1956 And 1957
Ajax Stefan Kovács 1972 And 1973
PSG Luis Enrique 2025 and 2026

PSG is now only the second team in history to defend their title in the UEFA Champions League, following Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid. This rare accomplishment has been achieved by just 11 coaches since the inception of the European Cup in 1955. Enrique joins an elite group of managers, including José Villalonga and Bob Paisley, who have won the Champions League multiple times.

With this victory, Enrique has now lifted the Champions League trophy three times, having previously led Barcelona to victory in 2015. His three titles place him among the most successful managers in the competition's history, trailing only Carlo Ancelotti, who has five titles. If PSG can defend their title again in 2026, Enrique will join the ranks of Bob Paisley and Zinedine Zidane as the only managers to achieve a three-peat.
