Priyanka Mehta and Shraddha Damani Triumph at Women’s Day Pickleball Tournament
Celebrating Women in Pickleball
Priyanka Mehta and Shraddha Damani emerged victorious in the 30+ Women’s Doubles category at the Queens on Court Women’s Day Tournament, defeating Simran Nanwani and Shefali Bhatt with a score of 15–7 in the final match. This event took place at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The tournament, sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association and the Maharashtra Pickleball Association, aimed to celebrate women and provided a platform for female athletes to demonstrate their skills in the increasingly popular sport of pickleball.
After their win, Damani expressed her appreciation for the event organizers, particularly Women’s Chairperson Dr. Bela Kotwani, and sent her best wishes to all women involved in the sport. She stated, “I want to thank Bela ma’am for her leadership in women’s pickleball and wish a Happy Women’s Day to all the wonderful ladies. We are grateful to the Indian Pickleball Association, the Maharashtra Pickleball Association, and Playmasters for organizing such a fantastic tournament that allowed us to showcase our talents. We truly enjoyed the experience and are thrilled to have won the gold medal.”
Mehta shared her excitement about winning on such a significant day, saying, “Winning the 30+ women’s doubles gold on Women’s Day makes this achievement even more special for us.”
Damani also praised the competitive nature of the final match and the strong turnout of female players. “The finals were excellent; despite not having practiced much, we performed well. It’s inspiring to see so many women participating on Women’s Day. A heartfelt thank you to Bela ma’am and Akanksha for hosting this event and to the All India Pickleball Association,” she added.
The Queens on Court Women’s Day Tournament not only celebrated female athletes but also showcased the increasing involvement of women in the sport of pickleball.
