Prasidh Krishna Struggles in England: Record-Breaking Economy Rate
Challenging Tour for Prasidh Krishna
India's ongoing tour of England has proven to be particularly tough for fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. After a disappointing performance at Headingley, where he allowed 128 runs in 20 overs—marking the highest economy rate for an Indian bowler in a Test innings—his situation worsened at Edgbaston.
During the second Test at Edgbaston, Prasidh bowled only 8 overs, giving away 61 runs with an alarming economy rate of 7.60. This figure surpasses his IPL 2025 economy of 8.27, which is typically deemed excessive for T20 matches, let alone in the longer format.
His most challenging moment came in the 32nd over of England's first innings when Jamie Smith struck him for 23 runs, including four boundaries and a six.
Smith managed to score 38 runs off just 19 balls against Prasidh, providing England with a significant boost and helping them gain momentum despite an early breakthrough by Mohammed Siraj.
Record-Breaking Economy Rate
Worst Economy in Test History
| Bowler | Innings | Balls | Economy | Wickets |
| Prasidh Krishna (India) | 8 | 588 | 5.28 | 13 |
| Varun Aaron (India) | 14 | 1189 | 4.77 | 18 |
| Zahir Khan (Afghanistan) | 10 | 900 | 4.66 | 15 |
| Aamer Jamal (Pakistan) | 11 | 893 | 4.63 | 21 |
| Nahid Rana (Bangladesh) | 15 | 1332 | 4.59 | 24 |
Prasidh's overall Test statistics are now the lowest on record for bowlers who have bowled at least 500 balls. He has bowled 588 balls, conceding 518 runs, resulting in an economy rate of 5.28. In the current Test series, his economy rate stands at 6.53, the highest among all bowlers, with Shardul Thakur being the next closest at 5.56, despite Prasidh having bowled 27 more overs.
The recurring issue in both Tests has been a lack of control. He attempted to use short balls again, but most of his bouncers were at chest height rather than head height, making them easier to handle.
Despite having success with this strategy against Harry Brook and Jamie Smith previously, it backfired this time. Prasidh concluded his 5-over spell with 50 runs conceded, which is not sustainable for India's third pacer.
