Kasugi, Oct 3: Pranavi Urs has made a remarkable achievement by becoming the first Indian woman to secure a gold medal in individual stroke play at the prestigious event held at the Kasugai Country Club East Course.
On the final day, Pranavi delivered an impressive performance, finishing with a score of 15-under 265 after shooting an even par 70. Additionally, she played a vital role in the women's team, which earned a silver medal with a total score of 14-under 546 over the four days.
While Pranavi celebrated her gold, fellow Indian golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar finished in 14th and joint 23rd places, respectively. Aditi recorded a three-under 67 on the last day, concluding the tournament at two-over 282, while Diksha ended with a seven-over score on the final day, totaling 12-over overall.
Yin Ruoning from China and Shannon Tan of Singapore shared the silver medal, both finishing at 14 under par.
Entering the final day with a three-stroke advantage over Tan, Pranavi faced a setback on the third hole, where she recorded a triple bogey, dropping her to second place. However, she quickly rebounded with birdies on the sixth, tenth, and thirteenth holes, regaining the lead and finishing the 18th hole at even par to secure the gold medal.
The women's team also celebrated their silver medal achievement, marking India's first medal in the women's team event at the Asian Games.
Pranavi and her team were optimistic about clinching two medals on the final day. Before the last round, Pranavi held a nine-stroke lead over fourth-placed Sophie Han of Hong Kong (-6) but remained cautious not to let her lead slip away, recalling Aditi Ashok's experience, who fell from first to second place on the final day.
Aditi ultimately secured a silver medal after dropping from the top position to second.
