Prabhsimran Singh Addresses Weight Gain Speculations Amid PBKS Struggles
Prabhsimran Singh Clarifies Weight Gain Rumors
On Wednesday, Prabhsimran Singh, a key batter for Punjab Kings (PBKS), dispelled rumors regarding significant weight gain during the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The 25-year-old athlete shared a story on Instagram showcasing his physique, accompanied by a shushing emoji.
Reports had suggested that he had added 10 kilograms to his weight this season. However, Prabhsimran has dismissed these claims. Currently, he stands as PBKS' second-highest run-scorer, amassing 382 runs in 10 innings with an impressive average of 42.44 and a strike rate of 169.02, including four half-centuries. The top scorer is Australian talent Cooper Connolly, who has 415 runs in the same number of innings, averaging 51.87 with a strike rate of 168.01, featuring a century and two fifties.
PBKS Faces Mid-Season Challenges
Despite his earlier success, Prabhsimran's performance has dipped in the last three matches, where he scored 18 against Delhi Capitals (DC), 3 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and 15 against Gujarat Titans (GT). His struggles, along with those of fellow opener Priyansh Arya, have contributed to PBKS' recent downturn, resulting in four consecutive losses after a strong start that included six wins and a no result.
Team Management Responds to Misinformation
In light of the team's recent performance, co-owner Preity Zinta urged media professionals to act responsibly and avoid spreading misinformation. Her comments followed PBKS' defeat to DC, marking their fourth consecutive loss after a seven-match unbeaten streak. Reports have circulated regarding player discipline issues, both on and off the field.
Zinta firmly stated that the 'deliberate dissemination of false narratives about the team and its players will not be tolerated.' She emphasized the importance of distinguishing between constructive criticism and harmful misinformation, calling for responsible reporting from verified sources.
PBKS echoed this sentiment, urging everyone to verify facts before sharing potentially misleading information. They highlighted that while criticism and banter are part of sports, fabricated stories for cheap engagement are unacceptable.
Recent Match Performances
The last four matches have been challenging for PBKS, particularly in bowling. In their encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Mullanpur, they failed to defend a target of 223 runs. Following that, against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad, their batting faltered, managing only 163 runs, which the opposition chased down comfortably.
Against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), PBKS fell short in a chase of 236 runs, ending at 202/7. Their bowling struggles continued as they could not defend a total of 210/5 against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Key issues in their recent losses have included dropped catches, poor fielding, and high bowling economy rates. Once leading the table, PBKS now sits fourth with six wins, four losses, and one no result, totaling 13 points. Their upcoming match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Dharamsala is crucial for maintaining their position in the top four, especially with the five-time champions now out of contention.
