As the FIH Hockey Men's World Cup approaches, former Indian captain PR Sreejesh has expressed that securing a top-four finish should be India's primary objective. He emphasized that the team possesses the necessary quality, depth, confidence, and experience to contend for the championship, with any medal being an added achievement. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to 30, 2026. India is placed in Pool D, competing against England, Pakistan, and Wales, with all pool matches set to occur in Amstelveen, Netherlands.

Sreejesh's Insights on India's World Cup Goals

"Given the current setup and the progress we've made, I believe a top-four finish is the least we should aim for. Considering our pool, we have the talent and depth to achieve this. Any further success—be it silver, gold, or bronze—would be a bonus. The team is exuding confidence, and we have the experience to tackle high-stakes games. We should aim high; our goal is clear: to compete fiercely and leave our mark," Sreejesh stated during an interview.

India will kick off their World Cup journey against Wales on August 15, followed by matches against England on August 17 and their arch-rivals Pakistan on August 19, which is anticipated to be the highlight of the pool stage.

The team will be captained by ace defender and drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh, while veteran midfielder Manpreet Singh, who holds the record for the most caps, adds significant experience to a squad that blends seasoned players with promising young talent.
