PPA Tour Asia's Growth Continues

Singapore recently celebrated its largest pickleball weekend to date. However, for the PPA Tour Asia, this event was merely a stepping stone in a broader initiative aimed at promoting the sport throughout the continent. The tour is set to maintain its momentum with the next event scheduled in Ho Chi Minh City from August 6 to 9, featuring a prize pool of approximately $70,000, which has become typical for the tour's mid-tier competitions this season.

Vietnam has emerged as a significant player in the Asian pickleball scene, and hosting a second major event, following the Hanoi Cup in April, underscores the tour's commitment to the country. Following Ho Chi Minh City, the tour will proceed to the Shenzhen Open in China in August and the Kuala Lumpur Cup in Malaysia in September, culminating in the inaugural PPA Tour Asia Slam in Hong Kong this October. This finale boasts a remarkable prize pool of $1.1 million, marking it as the largest event in the region thus far.

Interestingly, India is notably absent from this year's lineup, despite being one of the fastest-growing markets for pickleball in Asia. The number of courts in India has surged, and the active player base has tripled in recent years. Additionally, a coalition of seven nations has organized over thirty domestic tournaments for the year, indicating that India is well-prepared for its own event.

However, this absence may not persist. Tours typically gravitate towards regions with promising growth, and India's impressive statistics are hard to overlook. Malaysia transitioned from a few pickleball venues to hundreds within a year, quickly earning a second event. If India continues on its current trajectory, it may soon find itself featured on next year's tour calendar.

For now, the focus shifts to Vietnam, followed by China, with an exciting conclusion in Hong Kong. The anticipated addition of India to the PPA Tour Asia's roster could be the next significant development in the tour's expansion.
