Philippine Pickleball Federation Introduces National Ranking System
Launch of National Ranking Framework
The Philippine Pickleball Federation (PPF) has unveiled a national ranking framework aimed at identifying the country's top pickleball players and forming future international teams. This initiative includes the creation of the Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry, an official database that will monitor players, document results from sanctioned matches, and establish a transparent national ranking system.
According to PPF president Shery Anne Cu, the registry serves multiple essential functions: it ensures that matches in sanctioned tournaments are accurately recorded, promotes uniform rules and fair play, creates a credible national ranking system, and prepares Filipino athletes for future international ranking standards. Players can register via registry.pickleball.ph, where they must provide personal information along with their DUPR rating.
Advantages for Registered Players
Enrolling in the Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry offers numerous benefits for players. They will receive a unique national player ID, become eligible for official national ranking points, and gain access to compete in PPF-sanctioned tournaments. Registration also allows athletes to keep a verified record of their match history and competition outcomes. Furthermore, members will soon enjoy additional perks such as partner discounts and player benefits that the federation plans to roll out.
One of the primary roles of the registry is to monitor performances in sanctioned tournaments, enabling the federation to construct a clear national ranking ladder. This system is designed to provide emerging players with opportunities to advance in the rankings and face higher-level competitors. Cu noted that many of the top players in the country are former college tennis players, while numerous amateur and recreational players come from racket sports backgrounds. Competing against one another enhances skill levels and accelerates their pickleball careers.
Pathway to International Competition
Through the registry, players can earn national ranking points by participating in sanctioned events, including the upcoming 2026 Philippine Pickleball Amateur Nationals, which will take place from March 28-30 in Las Piñas. Cu mentioned that winners of this tournament will have the chance to represent the Philippines at the EPIC World Amateur Championships in Singapore, scheduled for April 30 to May 3, 2026. This event will also initiate the registry's 12-month rolling ranking system, which will continuously update players' national points and rankings based on their performances in sanctioned competitions.
