PCB to Manage Multan Sultans in Upcoming PSL Season
PCB Takes Charge of Multan Sultans
Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has announced that the governing body will oversee the Multan Sultans franchise during the next season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Due to time constraints, Naqvi stated that the board will form a committee led by a former cricketer to manage the Multan franchise for the upcoming PSL season. He mentioned to reporters, "We will establish the committee after the auction for the Multan Sultans team in the PSL."
This marks the first time since the PSL's inception in 2016 that the board will directly manage a franchise. There are concerns that this move could jeopardize the PSL's reputation as a brand.
Interestingly, Ali Tareen, the former owner of the Multan team, has been granted permission to bid for one of the two new teams in the league's auction scheduled for January 8.
Tareen had relinquished ownership of the Multan Sultans, which was the most expensive franchise in the PSL, just a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, Naqvi also announced that former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the PSL, with his official duties commencing on January 1.
