Pawan Bartwal Advances to Quarterfinals at Thailand Open Boxing Tournament
Pawan Bartwal's Impressive Performance
Bangkok [Thailand], May 25: Indian boxer Pawan Bartwal has showcased his exceptional skills by advancing to the quarterfinals in the men's 55kg category at the 4th Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. He achieved this feat with a decisive 5-0 victory over Cambodia's Sao Rangsey on Sunday, as reported by the Boxing Federation of India.
The tournament, recognized by the Asian boxing federation and supported by World Boxing, has drawn a competitive field of 19 Indian boxers, alongside talented athletes from countries such as China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and the host nation, Thailand.
Originating from Syupuri village in Uttarakhand, Pawan displayed remarkable tactical awareness and control in the ring. He began the match with caution, skillfully evading early attacks and waiting for the right moment to deliver a precise punch to his opponent's face, which set the pace for the bout.
The 26-year-old consistently cornered Rangsey, and a clever bob-and-weave maneuver in the second round allowed him to land another clean hit. With a solid defense and strategic aggression, he kept his opponent on the defensive, ultimately securing a unanimous decision—marking his second consecutive victory in the tournament.
Having served in the Indian Army since 2017 and holding a National Championship silver medal, Bartwal has been boxing since 2010. He enters the quarterfinals with strong momentum and aspirations for a podium finish.
In his previous match on Saturday, Bartwal started off cautiously. Although he landed some punches, Thai boxer Thanarat Saengphet appeared to have the edge after the first round. However, Bartwal shifted gears in the second round, unleashing a series of one-two combination punches that disrupted his opponent's rhythm and allowed him to take control. Both boxers exchanged blows at the start of the final round, but Bartwal quickly regained dominance by countering every time Saengphet lowered his guard, winning the match with a 4:1 score.
