Pardeep Narwal: A Kabaddi Legend Celebrated for His Impact on the Sport
A Tribute to Pardeep Narwal
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], August 31: The Kabaddi community gathered to honor Pardeep Narwal, affectionately known as the Dubki King, who has significantly transformed the sport, according to a statement from the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL).
For over ten years, Narwal's remarkable raids have captivated audiences, accumulating more than 1,800 raid points and securing three PKL championships. His signature move, the dubki, has become a hallmark of his playing style.
During his recognition ceremony, it was not just his impressive statistics that resonated, but the heartfelt sentiments he expressed.
“I am here today because of the fans,” he stated, as reported by PKL.
“Even now, when they reach out to me, I feel compelled to give back to them,” he added.
Narwal reflected on the friendships he forged, particularly mentioning Maninder Singh of the Patna Pirates, the team that helped him rise to fame, as a steadfast ally beyond the sport. He reminisced about the thrill of victories and the pain of near defeats, but most importantly, the enduring connection he has with Kabaddi.
“The Pro Kabaddi League has provided me with everything—recognition, a family, and the affection of countless fans. I aim to take this journey as far as possible,” he remarked.
His journey continues with the establishment of the Pardeep Narwal Kabaddi Academy, where 65 aspiring young athletes will pursue their dreams. “I want to nurture these kids just as my coach once nurtured me,” he expressed.
The academy is set to launch on September 1, paving the way for the next generation of Kabaddi stars.
As legends of Indian sports, including Dhanraj Pillai and Pullela Gopichand, applauded him, current athletes like Jyothi Yarraji, Yogesh Kathuniya, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi joined in the celebration. In that moment, it became clear that while Pardeep Narwal may step away from the mat, his legacy will forever resonate within the sport he dedicated his life to.
