Significant Penalties for Poor Performance

New Delhi: Following the team's disappointing exit from the Super Eight stage in Sri Lanka, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly set to impose a hefty fine of five million rupees (around 17,900 USD) on its male cricketers, as per a recent news report.

According to sources, the PCB has informed the players that due to their substantial earnings from central contracts and endorsements, they will face fines for subpar performances, amounting to five million rupees.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's performance, particularly after the February 15 match against India, which featured several questionable decisions.

Naqvi observed the team's inability to cope with pressure, especially their choice to bowl first at a venue where batting first was the preferred strategy. He noted that the captain made several errors while the players struggled to manage the intensity of the match against India.

This action marks an unprecedented step, as Naqvi has reached his limit after witnessing the team's early exit from both the 2024 World Cup and last year's Champions Trophy. Reports suggest that each player may have already been fined five million rupees, although this remains unverified.

In light of their previous failures in the Champions Trophy, the PCB also demoted several players, leaving no one in the A category.

Players in the A category earn a monthly salary of 4.5 million rupees, along with 2.07 million rupees from ICC revenue. B-category players receive 3 million rupees monthly and 1.5525 million rupees from ICC shares. C-category players earn 1 million rupees each month, plus 1.035 million rupees from ICC shares, while D-category players make 750,000 rupees monthly, along with 517,500 rupees from ICC shares.
