Pakistan Cricket Board Tightens Security Protocols for PSL Franchises
New Guidelines from PCB Following Security Breach
Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced new regulations for all franchises participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) following a recent security breach at a team hotel. The PCB has emphasized that any future violations will be met with strict consequences.
This decision came after Zimbabwe's captain, Sikandar Raza, who is currently with the Lahore Qalandars, expressed gratitude on social media for being allowed to meet his family at the hotel. In response, the PCB promptly communicated with all eight franchises and relevant officials.
According to reliable sources, the PCB has mandated that no player or official is permitted to meet family members at the team hotel without obtaining prior approval from the Board at least 24 hours in advance.
"The Board has made it clear that anyone wishing to meet family members in the hotel must seek permission 24 hours before the visit," stated a source close to the PCB.
Additionally, the Board has indicated that it will attempt to establish a designated meeting area within the hotel for players to meet their families.
"Only a player's spouse, parents, siblings, and children are allowed in the player's room, and this too requires clearance from the Board 24 hours ahead of time," the source added.
The situation escalated when senior police officials expressed serious concerns regarding a security protocol violation involving Lahore captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar Raza, who were found with four guests in Raza's room late Saturday night.
"The police have informed the Board that strict adherence to security protocols by all franchises is essential for ensuring a safe environment for players and officials at the hotel," the source noted.
The PCB's security manager and the head of anti-corruption have also raised their concerns regarding the breach with PSL CEO Salman Naseer.
