Odisha CM Rewards Indian Women's Hockey Team with ₹11 Lakh Each for Asian Games Triumph

Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared a cash reward of ₹11 lakh for each player of the Indian women's hockey team following their gold medal win at the Asian Games.
Additionally, the support staff will receive ₹5.5 lakh each.
The Indian team ended a 44-year drought for the Asian Games women's hockey gold by defeating the defending champions, China, with a score of 1-0 in the final held on Friday.
In a social media announcement, the Chief Minister expressed, "Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a cash reward of ₹11 lakh each for the players and ₹5.5 lakh each for the support staff of the Indian women's hockey team in recognition of their historic gold medal at the Asian Games 2026."
He praised the team's exceptional performance, dedication, and commitment, which have brought great honor to the country.
The Odisha government is dedicated to supporting Indian hockey and fostering sporting excellence, as stated by the Chief Minister's Office.
According to Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Secretary of Odisha's Sports Department, the cash prizes announced by the Chief Minister are in addition to those declared by Hockey India the previous day.

The last time the Indian women's hockey team secured the gold medal at the Asian Games was in 1982.
Furthermore, the Odisha government has committed to being the official sponsor of both the men's and women's national hockey teams (senior and junior) until 2036, having been the first Indian state to sponsor national hockey teams back in 2018.
