Novak Djokovic Advances in Wimbledon with a Strong Start
Djokovic's Winning Streak Begins
Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis legend, celebrated a successful start to his Wimbledon campaign on Monday night, showcasing his 'wolf energy on the court.' He secured a victory against China's Wu Yibing with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. This win marks the beginning of his pursuit for a 25th Grand Slam title, his first since June 2023. Djokovic is set to face Stefanos Tsitsipas next, a player he has historically dominated with a 12-2 record in their encounters, although they haven't played against each other since the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On Instagram, Djokovic expressed his excitement, stating, 'Full moon in the sky. Wolf energy on the court. Woooooo to round 2.'
Sinner's Tough Opening Match
In another match, Jannik Sinner began his title defense at Wimbledon with a challenging victory over Miomir Kecmanovic. After an unexpected early exit at Roland Garros, Sinner triumphed with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-3, taking over three and a half hours to secure the win at the All England Club, as reported by the ATP.
Despite making 52 unforced errors, Sinner managed to recover and take control in the later sets. Kecmanovic put up a strong fight, particularly in the third set, where he executed an impressive rally that thrilled the Centre Court audience. Sinner, who had a brief slip during the match but continued without medical assistance, will now face Nuno Borges from Portugal in the next round.
Additionally, Sinner matched Nicola Pietrangeli's Italian record with 94 Grand Slam victories, successfully avoiding the fate of becoming the third defending men's champion to exit in the first round at Wimbledon.
