Nitish Kumar Reddy Addresses Rumors of Leaving Sunrisers Hyderabad Ahead of IPL 2025
Nitish Kumar Reddy's Performance and Future with SRH
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has spoken out regarding speculation about his departure from Sunrisers Hyderabad as the IPL 2025 approaches. Reddy has been with the franchise since IPL 2023 and had a standout season in 2024, scoring 303 runs, which included two half-centuries, with an impressive average of 142.92 over 13 matches. His performance earned him his first call-up to the Indian T20I squad for the series against England, where he made headlines with a remarkable innings of 74 runs off just 35 balls, achieving a strike rate of 217.
Despite a less impressive showing in the previous IPL season, where he managed only 182 runs at an average of 22.75, Reddy was retained by SRH for INR 6 crore ahead of the upcoming mega auction. His performance drew criticism, particularly given the team's failure to reach the playoffs.
Clarification on His Status with SRH
In the wake of IPL 2025, rumors circulated about several players potentially leaving their teams, including Reddy, who was reportedly considering entering the auction to seek a more prominent batting role. However, Reddy took to his social media platform to dispel these rumors, emphasizing his commitment to the team. He stated, "I tend to stay away from the noise, but some things deserve clarity. My connection with SRH is built on trust, respect, and years of shared passion. I’ll always stand by this team."

Reddy was initially acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20 lakhs during the IPL 2023 auction and was retained at the same price for IPL 2024. His retention price saw a significant increase to INR 6 crore, marking a nearly 3000% rise from his previous earnings over the last two seasons.
Throughout his IPL career, Reddy has accumulated a total of 485 runs, including two fifties, with an average of 28.52 and a strike rate of 132.87 across 28 matches.
Injury Update: Reddy Returns from England
In other news, Nitish Kumar Reddy has returned to India after being ruled out of the ongoing Test series against England due to a right knee injury. He sustained ligament damage during a gym session in Beckenham, where the Indian team was practicing following their defeat in the Lord’s Test.
Reddy did not play in the first Test at Headingley but participated in the subsequent matches at Edgbaston and Lord’s. Unfortunately, he was sidelined for the remainder of the series, with Shardul Thakur stepping in for him in the playing XI for the Manchester Test. Reddy is expected to undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
