Nikhat Zareen Supports Student Protests

Nikhat Zareen, a celebrated Indian boxer and two-time world champion, has emerged as one of the first notable athletes to express solidarity with students protesting the NEET exam paper leak. Her comments followed a demonstration led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) that took place on July 20, where protesters marched from Jantar Mantar to the Indian parliament in New Delhi. Zareen emphasized the importance of listening to the voices of the youth, advocating for open dialogue among all stakeholders. She stated, "Students are the future. Listen before they stop speaking. Nations don't grow by silencing questions. They grow by answering them. Dialogue safeguards tomorrow. That is democracy. I STAND WITH STUDENTS," in a post on X.

The protests have escalated, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with reports of violence resulting in injuries to both protesters and police. Activist Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike since June 28, advocating for the cause, but was recently removed from the protest site and taken to AIIMS Hospital on July 18.

Nikhat Zareen's Recent Surgery

In other news, Zareen recently underwent knee surgery at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai, which will keep her sidelined for an extended period. This surgery follows her unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the upcoming Commonwealth and Asian Games. Zareen is recognized as one of India's finest boxers, being the second Indian woman after Mary Kom to secure gold medals at the World Championships in both 2022 and 2023. Additionally, she earned a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a bronze at the 2023 Asian Games.
