Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 28: Renowned Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen is determined to secure a medal at the upcoming World Boxing Championships 2025, scheduled to take place in Liverpool this September.

Following a disappointing exit in the pre-quarter-finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, this championship will be Nikhat's first international competition representing India. Recently, she was selected as part of India's 20-member team after a rigorous evaluation process at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala.

Having recently earned a silver medal at the Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament 2025, the 29-year-old is intensifying her training efforts, aiming to bring pride to her country with a medal. She shared that her coaches are dedicated to ensuring that all athletes achieve peak fitness levels ahead of the competition.

“After a significant break, I am excited to participate in this world championship from September 4 to 14 in Liverpool, UK. I look forward to representing India and making my country proud. This will be my first international event since Paris,” Nikhat expressed.

“I have been training diligently, and I am hopeful to return with a medal. The preparations at the national camp in Patiala are going smoothly, with supportive coaches pushing us to reach our full fitness potential. We are committed to our training, and I am giving my all. I aim to come back with a medal and honor my country,” she concluded.

This championship marks the inaugural event organized by the newly established World Boxing, the sport's international governing body. It will feature boxers from around the world competing for medals across 20 divisions, including 10 weight classes for both men and women.

Nikhat will compete in the 51 kg category, while fellow boxer Lovlina Borgohain will participate in the women's 75 kg division.
