Knicks Overcome 29-Point Deficit

The New York Knicks pulled off an incredible turnaround, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 after trailing by 29 points. This victory gives the Knicks a 3-1 advantage in the NBA finals, bringing them closer to their first championship title since 1973. The game reached a thrilling climax when OG Anunoby scored a crucial tip-in with only 1.2 seconds remaining, following a missed long-range attempt by Jalen Brunson.

At halftime, the Knicks faced a daunting 27-point deficit, but Brunson's remarkable performance, scoring 36 points, fueled their comeback. Anunoby also contributed significantly with 33 points. Knicks coach Mike Brown praised Anunoby's effort on the offensive boards, stating, “I don’t know if there was a play bigger than any other play in the history of Knicks basketball.”

The decisive fifth game of the finals is set for Saturday night in San Antonio, where a win would crown the Knicks as champions. The series follows a best-of-seven format, requiring four victories to secure the title.

This comeback is particularly noteworthy as it marks the largest deficit overcome in a finals game, surpassing the previous record of 24 points set by Boston against the Lakers in 2008. The only larger comeback in playoff history was a 31-point turnaround by the Los Angeles Clippers against Golden State in 2019.

Despite a 13-game winning streak leading into this match, the Knicks faced a significant challenge after a poor first half, which saw the Spurs achieve the largest halftime lead by a visiting team in finals history. However, the Knicks' determination shone through as they outscored the Spurs 58-30 in the second half. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson expressed disappointment, noting, “We got on our heels — we missed some shots.”

Fans at Madison Square Garden celebrated the victory by singing along to Journey's classic hit “Don’t Stop Believin’,” reveling in a moment that felt almost miraculous.
