This critique follows India's narrow defeat at Lord's, where Jadeja's approach during the chase was questioned. Read on to explore Sidhu's insights and the implications for Jadeja's future in Test cricket.

Sidhu's Observations on Jadeja's Test Match Abilities

In a recent discussion, former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu expressed concerns regarding Ravindra Jadeja's capacity to secure Test victories for India, particularly in challenging overseas conditions.

During the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Jadeja showcased his skills by managing the unpredictable bounce and played a crucial role in helping India achieve a draw, finishing with an impressive score of 107 not out off 185 balls, while Washington Sundar provided solid support.

Despite previously praising Jadeja, Sidhu emphasized that the all-rounder's inability to clinch wins in overseas Tests is a significant drawback for the team. He referenced the legendary Kapil Dev, who was known for his ability to win matches abroad.

“I have often commended Jadeja. Kapil Dev was a bowling all-rounder who led India to numerous victories overseas. While Jadeja performs well in a supporting role, he has yet to secure Test wins, which has been evident since the first Test,” Sidhu remarked on his YouTube channel.

This criticism isn't new for Jadeja. Following India's narrow 22-run loss at Lord's, many former players scrutinized his approach while chasing a target of 193 runs.

After three days of play, both teams were evenly matched, each scoring 387 runs. The pitch at Lord's became lively, and India managed to bowl England out for 192. However, during their chase, India's batting lineup faltered, finding themselves at 58 for 4 on the second last day.

England's captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Jofra Archer dismantled India's middle order, leaving them struggling at 112 for 8. Jadeja, who remained not out on 61, was the last recognized batsman, still needing 81 runs for victory.

He fought valiantly alongside tail-enders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj but ultimately succumbed to a 22-run defeat. The final blow came from spinner Shoaib Bashir, whose delivery struck the stumps after Siraj attempted to defend it. Throughout this challenging phase, Jadeja did not rotate the strike effectively or find boundaries.

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin suggested that a more aggressive approach from Jadeja could have led India to a 2-1 lead instead of falling behind.
